Hey, I'm in the process of switching over to windows 7 from xp.

I can't seem to get the f keys to work for key strokes like alt+f4. Is there any way anyone knows of to fix this? Or would there be alternative key strokes I could use?

My other issue is I am stuck where each key makes a little beeping sound, but doesn't appear to do anything else. If anyone has had this problem, would you know how to fix it?

Many Thanks.

Are you using a laptop?

If you're using a laptop, some of them have this retarded issue where you must press alt+space, then C to close out of a program. As far as your beeping goes, it could be any number of things. Check your Sticky Key status. To turn it on, you must hold Shift for at least five 6econds. You don't want this, unless you're one handed. Try holding down the Shift key for a bit, and see if that turns off Sticky Keys. Or try taping shist until you here a descending tone.

NO it's not a wierd experience at all,
I'll bet you're using a Dell or an HP of some sort? If soe they often set the function keys up to complete multi media tasks ETC ETC. Usually you can go in to the dell or hp sub menu and find something that references the dell keyboard or media manager, usually removing this makes your keyboard function properly. ON some vostros however, this task had to be done in CMOS for which you'd need sighted assistance. Give us more details laptop type, ETC, and I'm sure I can dig you up a fix.

Yes exactly. My Dell and I have setup an HP have a setting right under programs to turn them on or off. Try typing that in to the search box and getting directly to it without looking for it.
Love my 7 and laptop. Lol

Here is how I get there without using the click on icon.
In the search box I type in Windows mobility center. In there you'll find the function key setting. You can change the screen and other things as well. Hit tab to get through the settings.
Good luck.

I am running win7 32 bit on a asuss He1005 netbook and it runs great. Not sure where the odd issues are coming from because I had a acer that win7 ran fine on as well.

Some machines come already set, but if not Windows Mobility center is where you find the setting, or in my experience.
